i work low level jobs for government and now non-profit.

the people i meet are like the people on tough crowd. they are ugly, fat, ignorant, bigoted, crude, perverted, and vulgar. but they are also witty, insightful, funny, tolerant, caring, willing to hear other people out, somewhat lacking in pretention, and self effacing.

i truly miss it. i feel like the pod people have taken over the media.

I hear ya. Forced politeness and mindless, good-natured banter don't make compelling TV watchin to me. If people say what they think about you to your face instead of behind your back and you appreciate the honesty, then I think it makes the atmosphere much less thick with upspoken tension.

I'm talking about stupid morning shows and such, there is plenty of hostile arguing on TV on reality shows and Crossfire-type current events "discussion" shows, so to say there is only forced politeness and mindless, good-natured banter on TV is stupid and whoever said that should be kicked in the ascii.

You can always count on numbers.

the difference with crossfire, hannity and comes, limbaugh, air america, etc, is this:

the people on these shows are pretty much incapable of laughing at themselves and making fun of their own flaws. nick dipaolo could take a joke. jim norton can really take a joke. greg giraldo can take a joke.

sean hannity, ann coulter, those crossfire dudes, michael moore, air america, etc, these folks cannot take a joke nor can they make a joke that is not some lame political dig.

jon stewarts 'discussions' and attempts to 'cross the aisle' make me ill. he parrots liberal platitudes, the audience goes wild, and some dumbass conservative (that he likely called a douchebag on a previous show) doing a book tour pretends to be civil.

colin had it right with the 'no applause' rule. thinking about him lambasting the audience and guests to stop clapping, it makes me smile. maybe he was just ahead of his time.

So this won't hurt your feelings then?

Okay... I have to admit something to you.  Someone left you out of the refrigerator too long, and you are beginning to make everyone a little sick.  An ambulance has been called for all those who can't contol thier vomiting, or get themselves to the nearest hospital.

Jim Norton and Ann Coulter are jokes.

But you're right about the people in charge who obviously can't see what some people want to see on their TV...  But did y'all forget this is a ratings game, and the TV execs are in it for the money, and TC wasn't bringing that in...  Just because a handful of us liked it doesn't mean it is best for Comedy Central.  If TV was supposed to be about 500 or so people who might watch that night, well okay...  But seriously, what kind of numbers was Quinn getting?

Yeah! Colin deserves his own show again!! WE deserve his own show again! Im tired of sappy comics who take over television and make millions of dollars with their corn-ball, husband/wife, fighting with the in-laws, the kids are a mess, Raymond is an idiot kind of sitcoms....sigh...No,REALLY...Raymond is an idiot!....
